Unit 2, Disability Awareness, includes activities that help students explore disability issues and experiences that are part of everyday life at home, at school and in the broader communities we share. From accessibility to knowing our neighbors, disability is there.

“The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.” Franklin Delano Roosevelt contracted Polio in 1921. He became permanently paralyzed in both of his legs and relied on a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Despite these obstacles, he went on to become President of the United States, winning reelection an unprecedented four times. He steered our nation out of the great depression and through most of World War 2.
